Our Cohousing Initiative
It all started when...
In June 2015 eleven people got together to visualize a way they would like to live…and thus the Perth Cohousing Initiative was launched. Since then the group has grown in size and vision. We invite you to check us out, come to a meeting, enjoy !
Where? Perth, a small, dynamic town in Eastern Ontario, one hour southwest of Ottawa.
Who are we? Seniors who are deciding how we want to live – and that is independently, actively engaged in our community, open to helping others and being helped, and living with concern and respect for the environment and sustainability.
Our original intention was two-fold:
Ideally we would build 11 private dwellings in the form of attached townhouses or an apartment-style building. In addition to each one or two-bedroom unit having its own kitchen, there would be welcoming common spaces where residents and members of the larger community could gather for shared meals and activities. Green construction technologies and energy efficient systems were to be used whenever possible.
And even before having a building, we would create opportunities for future residents and non residents to share in the development of caring and potentially supportive relationships…in effect a creative and supportive community.
